Find your footing before treatment in Nevada

How can I find a place to discuss care?

Let your health concern guide the search. Compare the visit format, the person assessing you and the arrangements for follow-up.

Compare care options and the people behind them

The health professional assessing and treating a patient is called a clinician.

For an in-person clinic, ask who will see you and whether the visit leaves time to discuss other choices.

For telehealth, meaning care at a distance, ask how you will talk with the clinician and what happens if a hands-on exam is needed.

Check who is allowed to treat you in Nevada

As of September 2026, someone treating a patient in Nevada online generally needs Nevada's permission to practise.

This means holding a Nevada licence or certificate for their profession.

Ask for the person's full name, profession, licence or certificate number, and the board that issued it.

Nevada uses separate licensing boards for doctors with MD and DO degrees.

MD and DO are two types of medical degree.

Ask which letters follow your doctor's name. Those letters help you choose the right board's search.

Match the person to the right board

Look for a conversation about your health

As of September 2026, national guidance for state medical boards says picking a medicine from a menu alone falls short of proper care.

That guidance calls for access to the clinician when patients have further questions.

This is guidance for medical boards.

It is not a separate Nevada law.

Ask how the clinician will decide whether the proposed treatment fits your situation.

Keep the care plan in view

  • How will the first visit work?
  • Who can explain a decision or a test result?
  • Where would any prescribed medicine come from?
  • What is included in the fee?
  • How can I stop a recurring plan?

Keep the answers from each place together. If an answer is missing, return to that point before committing to a plan.
